Graco Turbo High-back Booster

5 Oct

I am more educated on the subject of children’s car seats than your average consumer.  (I was even a NHTSA/AAA certified child restraint/car seat installation technician.)  I worked for more than a decade for 2 of the largest children’s furnishing companies in the USA.  So, when I recently realized my 3-year old had outgrown (by weight) his convertible car seat in my husband’s vehicle, (not an all-in-one, strictly a convertible) it was time for a quick run to Target.  I wanted to get a basic high-back belt positioning booster seat.  Graco is such a dependable brand and I felt safe choosing another Graco to keep my son safe in the event of a crash.  I purchased a lower price point seat, at Target, and am very happy with my purchase.  For $49 I purchased this Graco Turbo High-back Booster (fashion option = Keller.)  My little guy has been so cute since I installed his new seat.  He is so proud to be sitting in a “big boy seat” and keeps saying “Thank you Mommy for my new car seat.  I love it.” …just melts my heart.  And knowing he is safe and comfortable is beyond fabulous.  GRACO, way to keep batting them out of the park!  And thank you for keeping our Cherished Cargo #1 first and foremost.

Under Armour Vacuum Bottle

28 Aug

* Under Armour Stainless Steel 24 oz Vacuum Bottle *

Ok, I am impressed.  My husband just began working for Under Armour.  He is really excited about this brand.  I am excited for him.  And now I am excited for me too.  He surprised me with this new ‘water bottle’ last night after his first day on the job.  He was bragging about how all the employees swear by it; and that the one girl said she had filled her bottle with ice and a drink in the morning and MANY hours later the ice was still in the drink.  It had not melted…practically at all.  He told me he got me the last one they had in the store and that he’d give it to me and wait to get himself one when more stock arrived.  (How sweet)  🙂

So, this morning at 7am I filled my new thermos with ice and a drink and headed out to work.  Now, more than 7 hours later, though my drink was 2/3 gone, my ice is still about 75% in tact.  Unreal!  It is nice to have a truly *cold* beverage for hours.  Great engineering Under Armour!  Bravo!  I can’t wait to try more of your products.

Wag.com – I Gave it a Whirl

27 Aug

Some days, I feel as though all I do is buy cat food. I feed my two finicky felines the canned Natural Balance duck and green pea formula, which I normally buy at Petco. Petco’s prices on litter, treats and toys are higher than both Petsmart and my grocery store, so the only thing I buy at Petco is the food.

The idea of having cat food delivered to my door sent me right to my computer when I received a Wag.com coupon in the mail.

The site had the right food available, and it was delivered in good condition a day earlier than promised. Thumbs up for that.

Thumbs down on price. The price is equal to what I pay at Petco. Add shipping on top of that and it’s no bargain. (Free shipping is available on orders greater than $49.)

Thumbs down on convenience. I had to sign for my delivery. With my work schedule, that is more inconvenient than going to the store. If the price was right, I could have the package delivered to work, but it would have to be a lot cheaper for it to be worth lugging the package out to my car. (It’s a long-ish walk from my office to the parking garage.)

For me, Wag.com just doesn’t make sense, but if it works out for you, let us know in the comments!

Extra…Extra…Chew all about it.

17 Jul

I like gum.  But every time I discover a favorite, it is magically discontinued.  For example, I was totally addicted to Peppermint Sugarless Bubble Yum.  A few years after I graduated from college (in 1999) I quit smoking.  I referred to Peppermint Sugarless Bubble Yum as my “quit smoking gum.”  Thankfully they didn’t stop making it during that difficult phase.  Proudly, I have been cigarette free since January 3, 1999.  But, I do miss the gum.  Then, around 1999 when I moved far from home and turned into a gym rat, I found a new love:  Carefree Koolerz Mint Splash.  It was *almost* as good as the Bubble Yum.  I chewed the Koolerz religiously for years.  Then alas, about 6-7 years ago I guess it has been…that too disappeared.   Such a bummer!  I liked the soft, plumpness of both of these minty treats.  The flavor lasted a long time without getting rubbery.

I think I have since tried about every sugar-free gum on the market.  But alas, none compare.  I have settled on the Extra desert gums.  They are ok to treat a sweet tooth, but I find myself spitting them after 15 minutes; whereas, with the Bubble Yum & the Koolerz I’d chew them for hours on end.

Some of the new Extra flavors are a bit funky.  The Key Lime is pretty good.  I don’t really care for the mint chocolate.  The Apple Pie is too ‘spicy* for my liking…it’s very sweet.  And, most recently I tried the root beer, and I am not feeling that one at all.

If anyone has any suggestions for smooshy minty gum like the old Bubble Yum or Koolerz, please tell me.

Avo-Cobb-O Salad

Crisp mixed greens with tender grilled chicken breast, hardwood-smoked bacon, hard-boiled egg, avocado, black olives, ripe tomatoes and crumbled Bleu cheese. Served with warm garlic focaccia bread & your choice of dressing.

I enjoyed this salad yesterday for the first time when my husband, son, and I decided to grab an early dinner at our local Red Robin restaurant.  Oh my goodness… DELICIOUS!! Highly recommended.

I skipped the bread though to cut back on the carbs.  I enjoyed mine with ranch dressing.

Big Bang!

29 Jun

For those of you who haven’t watched, The Big Bang Theory is a sitcom about three lovable nerds and one kinda lovable nerd who work together at a university. Two of them are roommates and live across the hall from the totally not nerdy Penny.

BBT cracks me up because I am, albeit to a much lesser extreme, Sheldon Cooper.

I’m a bit of a nerd (he’s full on).

I’m particular about certain things and sometimes have weird reasons for them. (See Sheldon’s explanation about where he sits)

I’ve been told that people enjoy how I react to gifts. (See Sheldon’s reaction to Penny’s Christmas gift)

Like Sheldon, I sometimes don’t get come-ons from the opposite sex.

I hold grudges against celebrities (Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, etc.) Sheldon’s grudge is against Wil Wheaton.

Beyond my similarities to Sheldon, the show is wittily written and all of the characters make me laugh. And the “Soft Kitty” song is just the best.
